Applying to the SCBScN Program as a Post Secondary Student
The SCBScN program is a four-year, full-time program for students who want to become a Registered Nurse (RN).
Upon acceptance to the SCBScN program, students must be prepared to live in their campus city (Regina or Saskatoon) throughout the duration of their program. Travel outside of Regina and Saskatoon may be required for practice education placements. This program includes on-site lectures, labs, seminars, and practice education.
There is one intake a year for the fall term.

As the Saskatchewan Collaborative Bachelor of Science in Nursing is a competitive-entry program, applicants often require a higher average than the minimum average required for admission.

Admission Requirements
Applicants who have attempted 15 or more credit hours of approved post-secondary education must meet the following criteria:
- Successful completion of the required high school courses (listed below) or a post-secondary equivalent:
- One of English Language Arts 30, Francais Franskaskois A30 or Francais Immersion 30
- One of Foundations of Math 30, Pre-Calculus 30, or Calculus 30
- Biology 30
- Chemistry 30
- A minimum of 65% Admissions Grade Point Average (AGPA) on the last 30 credit hours of approved post-secondary courses presented.
- Previous or current University of Regina students must present a minimum UGPA of 65.00%.
- All applicants who have completed post-secondary course work must be considered in good standing (i.e. not on faculty or university level probation) at the University of Regina or former academic institution as of the start date of the program to retain their seat.
Please note: Saskatchewan high school students can present math requirements under the new and/or former curriculums. The previous Saskatchewan mathematics courses of Math A30, Math B30 or Math C30 will be accepted.
Applicants from other Canadian provinces or other countries may present the equivalent course(s) at the secondary or post-secondary level. Refer to High School Admissions Requirements for equivalent out-of-province high school courses and international high school equivalents.
GED will not be accepted in lieu of Grade 12.
Applicants must meet the English Language Proficiency Requirements – [View Requirements].
If you are missing a high school prerequisite, you can:
- Pursue studies through the high school system. See Saskatchewan School Boards Association for details.
- Complete the high school course(s) at Saskatchewan Polytechnic
- Take the approved post-secondary substitute at the University of Regina:
- Chemistry 30 = CHEM 100
- Biology 30 = BIOL 100 or BIOL 140
- ELA A30 and B30 = ENGL 100
- One of Foundations of Math 30, Pre-Calculus 30, or Calculus 30 = AMTH 092, PMTH 092, MATH 101, MATH 102, MATH 103 or MATH 110
Applicants completing courses must maintain an AGPA of 65.00% throughout the application process. Additionally, if applicants are completing courses at the University of Regina, they must also maintain a UGPA of 65.00%. Applicants who are conditionally admitted to the SCBScN program will have their seat revoked if they are unable to maintain these requirements.
How to Apply
- Fill out the undergraduate application for admission on the University of Regina’s Application Management portal
- If you have not previously used the online application, you will create a new login ID and password
- For application type, choose Undergraduate Application
- For Program of Study choose one of:
- Nursing => “Collaborative Nursing” for 4-year English SCBScN program
- Nursing => “Collaborative Nursing Bilingual” for 4-year Bilingual SCBScN program
- Applicants may only apply to one site (Regina or Saskatoon), this choice is given on the application form. If you become waitlisted at your location of choice and a seat becomes available to you at a different site, you may be contacted and offered that seat at the alternative site.
- Pay $100 (CAD) for undergraduate applicants and $200 for post-secondary transfer applicant. You can pay your fee by credit card or Flywire when submitting your application form online. To arrange alternative payment methods, please contact your Admissions Office.
Note:
- An applicant may apply for both the Bilingual Program Option and English SCBScN program. Please fill out two separate applications.
- Applicants must declare all post-secondary institutions attended for any length of time. Failure to disclose attendance at any post-secondary institution will lead to cancellation of your application, or withdrawal from the program.
Applicants are accepted based on their competitive admission average and number of seats available at each location. There are a limited number of seats in the SCBScN Program and there are often more applications than seats. Meeting minimum admission requirements does not guarantee admission.
Application Fee
There is a non-refundable application fee of $100 (CAD) for undergraduate applicants and $200 for post-secondary transfer applicant. You can pay your fee by credit card or Flywire when submitting your application form online. To arrange alternative payment methods, please contact your Admissions Office.
If you are a current or former University of Regina student, you are not required to pay this application fee; however, you must provide your University of Regina student identification number for verification and check off the box on the application form indicating that you are a current/former University of Regina student.
Official High School Transcripts
Applicants who have graduated high school at the time of application will submit their final high school transcript with all final grades;
Saskatchewan applicants must request their transcript to be sent electronically from the Ministry of Education directly to the University of Regina. For details on the supporting documents, you need and how to submit them for your application, review the Admission Documents and Transcripts page.
Official Post Secondary Transcripts
A high school transcript must be provided in addition to all post-secondary transcripts.
Applicants must declare all current and previous post-secondary education on their application regardless of the field of study. This includes any institution from which transfer credit has been received. Failing to disclose attendance at any post-secondary institution may lead to cancellation of submitted application, ineligibility for transfer credit, and may face revocation of admission.
Applicants who plan to complete courses after they have submitted their application, must notify the University of Regina, Admissions team. Failure to notify the University of Regina of any post-secondary attendance will result in cancellation of application or revocation of admission.

Transfer credit will not be awarded for courses taken at institutions not listed on application forms or if an applicant fails to notify the University of Regina of courses completed after submitting their application.
The language of instruction at the University of Regina is English. All applicants to the University of Regina must therefore demonstrate an appropriate level of proficiency in the English language. Visit English Language Proficiency (ELP) Requirements for more information.
If you are a First Nation, Métis, or Inuit applicant, you may qualify for an equity seat if you provide one of the following forms of verification:
- Certificate of Indian Status
- Métis Membership Card
- Letter of confirmation of Indigenous ancestry from either your Band’s Indian Registry Administrator or Métis Local

Decision and Notification of Successful Applicants
Initial admission offers will be communicated electronically using email prior to mid-April. Please ensure that you are checking your email frequently, or direct communication to an account that you do use frequently.
Unless otherwise stated, you typically have 15 days to respond to any further requests. The deadline for responding to the offer of admission is noted in your letter of offer.
Applicants are accepted based on their competitive admission average and number of seats available at their identified location. Admission to the SCBScN program is competitive, therefore only students with the highest admission average will be selected.

What if I am currently taking courses?
High School Courses
Applicants who are currently upgrading a required high school subject must notify the University of Regina which subject(s) they are currently upgrading. In addition to their official high school transcript received by March 15, a subsequent high school transcript indicating the final grade(s) of subject(s) upgraded must be received by August 1.
Post Secondary Courses
Applicants who are enrolled in post-secondary courses at or beyond the admission deadline may be offered conditional admission if they have completed 15 or more credit hours and are registered in the required admission subjects. Applicants who have been admitted conditionally must satisfy all conditions outlined by the program including the completion of all required admission subjects and an official transcript submitted to the University of Regina by March 15. A subsequent official post-secondary transcript indicating the final grade(s) of course(s) must be received by August 1.
Applicants who are currently upgrading a required high school subject with a post-secondary equivalent course must submit an official post-secondary transcript to the University of Regina by March 15. A subsequent official post-secondary transcript indicating the final grade(s) of course(s) must be received by August 1.
Applicants with outstanding grades at another post-secondary institution as of August 1 will be required to have an additional transcript submitted to to the University of Regina by September 1.
Students can take the following courses prior to being admitted to the program, a minimum grade of 60% is required:
- ENGL 100
- INHS 100
- STAT 100
- *BIOL 110 or KIN 261
- *BIOL 111 or KIN 262
- *BIOL 222
- 3 Open Electives (minimum grade of 50% required)
*Courses marked with an asterisk can only be completed through the Nursing Readiness Certificate.
Applicants who are currently admitted to the University of Regina can complete these courses in their current faculty. Applicants who are not current University of Regina students are encouraged to apply to the Nursing Readiness Certificate, offered through the Centre for Continuing Education (CCE). For more information on this certificate and admission requirements, please visit the Centre for Continuing Education website. Completion of one of these certificates does not guarantee admission into the SCBScN program.
