Upper Year Admission – Eligibility & Application

The Upper Year admission category is the admission pathway for any applicant who has completed 9 credit hours or more of nursing courses at a recognized Canadian post-secondary institution. Applicants who fall into this category are not eligible for the 4-year SCBScN or After Degree Nursing Program. Being considered an Upper Year applicant includes but is not limited to any of the following situations:

  • Partially completed a Practical Nursing Program
  • Partially completed a Psychiatric Nursing Program
  • Partially completed a Registered Nursing Program
  • Partially complete Pre-Professional Nursing Program

A nursing course is any course that is unique to a nursing program. Biology, Anatomy & Physiology, Statistics, English, Indigenous Health Studies, or electives are not considered nursing courses. If an applicant has not completed any nursing courses within their program, they can apply to the 4-Year SCBScN Program. Applicants who are unsure which category to apply to, please contact nursing.advising@uregina.ca for assistance.

For admission purposes, a recognized institution in Canada is one that is a member of either Colleges & Institutes Canada, or Universities Canada. A recognized institution outside of Canada is one that offers University or College-level programming, and is authorized by the government in that country. The U of R follows the Pan-Canadian Quality Assurance Framework for the Assessment of International Academic Credentials.

If an applicant has completed any of these nursing courses over seven years ago you may be eligible for the 4-year program. Transfer credit would not be granted due to stale-dating regulations. If you have questions regarding this admission route and if it applies to you, please contact nursing.advising@uregina.ca.
